Amongst all the chaos, the flurries of executive orders, and looming threats, a beautiful thing happened this week: a seemingly soft-spoken woman surprised the nation.
From her pulpit, speaking to a captive audience, Rt. Rev. Mariann Budde pleaded for mercy on behalf of the people who will be most impacted by a legitimized far-right agenda—immigrants and the LGBTQIA+ community. During a week full of fanfare about a peaceful transition of power (insight into just how low the bar has become), she confronted the incoming administration, pressing for compassion and empathy as Trump and Vance rolled their eyes, shifting in their seats as they sat uncomfortably next to women who don’t neatly fit into their vision of America.
